CARING FOR YOUR JEWELS
Pure water by itself doesn't damage sterling silver, but most of the water we're exposed to in our daily lives is not purified. Chemicals and contaminants in the water can result in tarnished and dull looking precious metals.
This means that it is a good idea to remove your jewellery when engaging in activities such as swimming in chlorine pools and/or spas, washing dishes and doing work that requires the use of harsh chemicals and detergents or poses a risk of accidental damage.
If you notice your silver jewellery becoming dull or tarnished, you can simply polish it with a silver polishing cloth which can be purchased from most jewellery stores. A complimentary polishing cloth is also added to each order.
Opal Care:
Compared to other gemstones, opals are quite delicate. Despite this, if cared for properly, your opal jewellery can easily last a lifetime! It is always a good idea to remove your opal jewellery if you are engaging in activities such as sports, swimming (mainly pools with chemicals) and cleaning. This is because you want to make sure you keep your opal safe from being knocked or being immersed in chemicals.
I only use solid opals (no doublets or triplets) which means you can have your opal jewellery immersed in water without the stone being affected, as long as the water is chemical free ie. the ocean.
